Started in 1968, Baker Imported Auto Parts supplied the Metro Atlanta area with parts and accessories for most British, Italian, and German motor cars. Selling from a small building in the Downtown Atlanta area, parts supplied from manufacturers such as Lucas, Bosch and Champion seemed to cover their basic needs. However, as the late 60’s left and the 70’s ushered in a new era of cars (Asian), some new names emerged in the market. Names like Tokico, KYB, NGK and Repco seemed to add to the growing inventory and space needs of this small company.
It was not long before Baker Imports moved to the Buckhead area, just outside Atlanta, to a larger building to help fill their growing needs. As the Atlanta market grew so did the employees knowledge of the Import Market for all makes of Import Motor Cars. The relationships developed by Baker Imported Auto Parts and various suppliers over the many years have come and went, but with these changes, the company has gained a strong sense of what works and what does not.
As the 70’s closed and the 80’s emerged, Baker Imports again made a location change that seemed to fit their ever changing needs. Even though parts inventory grew and faces changed somewhat, the core personel remained.
It was not long before the 80’s peaked and the huge influx of Asian Motor Cars forced manfacturers of British and Italian Motor Cars to take a back seat to the growing demand for parts in the import market. Baker Imported Auto Parts made this transition with seemless effort.
The 80’s took us out out of the old 5x8 card inventory method and introduced us to computers. In a short time it seemed that the 80’s had left and the 90’s crashed in. In the spring of 1995, Baker Imported expanded into its second location. It seemed that customer demand in the Northern parts of Atlanta had grown to the point that justified a location to fill this need. This new location started small, but, within 5 years had outgrown its current location and had to move to a larger location just miles north.
Today, Baker Imported Auto Parts is able to service both South Fulton and North Fulton County with most of its Import Motor Car needs. Our staff strives to provide both the retail and installer community with the customer service, brand names and price they need!
